  2. Subject: the updated version mod for the yaesu ft-51r

  4. This is a mod to RX and TX from 60-999 mhz on the Yaesu FT-51r
  5. This is the only mod of this kind i have ever see! 
  6.  
  7. Instructions: 
  8.  
  9. 1.Remove battery. 
  10. 2.Remove 6 screws holding bottom cover. 
  11. 3.Remove battery latch. 
  12. 4.Loosen 4 screws holding outer case together. 
  13. 5.Remove lower cover. 
  14. 6.Unfasten ribbon cable and secure with tape. 
  15. 7.Remove the two bottom of the three diodes found right above where the 
  16. ribbion connect's.
  17. 8.Remove solder joint jp1004 (the lower left hand corner of the six joints), 
  18. found  above where the ribbon cable connects's)
  19. 9.Reconnect ribbon cable
  20. 10.Re-assemble radio. 
  21. 11.Hold down UP and DOWN Volume and CALL buttons while pressing power. 
  22. The display will read "BAND 1" 
  23.  
  24. Hold FM key down until F key blinks. 
  25. Press MHZ UP or DOWN key several times until it reads "BAND 7" 
  26. Press FM key again. It will stop blinking. 
  27. Press CALL button. 
  28. Radio will shut off. 
  29. Modification is now complete!

  54. please change the jumper label to jp1007  and there are 7 jumper pads and
  55. not 6 as stated in you radio mods.
  56. otherwise the radio mods worked fine.

  66. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

  68. *This modification does not really enable an FT-51 to transmit from 60-999
  69. MHZ.  The transmit range is more like 120-179 and 320-485 MHz.  While the
  70. LCD meter indicates transmission, the radio does not actually transmit
  71. unless the VHF or UHF LED is illuminated.  Don't get too excited and think
  72. you have an all-band radio.

  74. **In addition to this, you also must do the "band 7" reset for the left and
  75. right banks separately in order to enable extended rx/tx on both sides.
  76. This is not a big deal, just select the band you want to reset before doing
  77. the power-on "yoga move".
